UNIDENTIFIED AFRICAN : Awong (Cameroon), Bokonge, Dikela (Zaire), Mibotu, Mboto, Otogo, Tshikalakala, Wengé (Zaire), Zai wenge.

 

"Wenge" seems to be  the preferred trade name for this species.

CHINESE :  
光 叶崖豆藤  Guang ye ya dou teng (Hong Kong),    光 葉魚藤  Guang ye yu teng  (Taiwan).

ENGLISH :  Glittering-leaved millettia.

JAPANESE : 
ミレッティア・ニティダ Mirettia nitida.

SYNONYM(S) :  
Millettia ovalifolia sensu Kurz, non (Wight & Arn.) Kurz

BENGALI : 
তূমা Tuma.

BURMESE :   Nantha, Thinwin.

ENGLISH :  Jewels on a string,  Moulien rosewood.

SYNONYM(S) :  Millettia leucantha Kurz.

BURMESE :  Thinwin.

JAPANESE :   ミレッティア・ペンドゥ ラ  Mirettia pendura,  ミレッティア・ペンヅ ラ   Mirettia penjira.

PORTUGUESE :  Khacho.

UNIDENTIFIED :  Sortom.


The above non-Japanese common names are  trade names for this species and "khacho" appears to be preferred.  We guessed  the  identities of the languages.

CHINESE :   水黃皮  Shui huang pi (Taiwan).

ENGLISH :  Indian beech, Indian pongamia, Karum tree, Mullikulam tree (Ceylon), Pongam, Pongam oiltree, Pongam oil tree,  Pongamia tree,  Poonga oil tree (India).

HINDI : Karnja, Pongam.

JAPANESE :  クロヨナ  Kuro yona, 黒ヨナ Kuro yona,   ミレッティア・ピンナタ  Mirettia pinnata.

KANNADA :  ಹೊಂಗೆ  Honge, ಹೊಂಗೆ ಬೀಜ  Honge bīja (seeds).

MALAYALAM : Pungam, Ungam.

SANSKRIT : Karanja, नक्तमाल Naktamāla.

SINHALESE :  Gal karanda, Karanda, Magul karanda.

ENGLISH : Awang, Partridge wood (Tanzania), Panga panga.

FRENCH : Awoung (Cameroun), Millettia de Mozambique, Millettia de Tanzanie, Panga panga.

JAPANESE :  パ ンガ・パンガ  Panga panga.

PORTUGUESE : Jambire (Mosambique), Pau rosa (Brazil).

SWAHILI : Mpande (Tanzania).

UNIDENTIFIED : Jambirre, Jambiri, Jambrie, Messara, Pangire.

 

Wenge or Wengé seem to be applied to this species in some African countries. Panga-panga however seems to be the  preferred trade name for it.
