Chusquea gigantea J. P. Demoly

Photograph on Peter Meeuws' site (Holland).

This name not being mentioned by D. Ohrnberger appears doubtful perhaps it should be Arundo gigantea which has been transferred to Arundinaria ? or as some authors point out, it is simply a synonym of Chusquea breviglumis Phil.

Chusquea montana Phil. (OHRN)

SYNONYM(S) : Chusquea nigricans Phil. (doubtful synonym)

SPANISH : Tihuen (Argentina).

D. Ohrnberger does not mention the 2 forms of C. montana recognised in Chile. D. H. Romero who places a C.tenuiflora as a synonym of the type (ie. f. montana) does not give an author name for the botanical binomial so it may or may not be the C. tenuiflora that D. Ohrnberger classifies as a separate accepted species. On the other hand D. H. Romero places C. tenuiflora Phil. as a synonym of C. uliginosa., another separate accepted name of D. Ohrnberger.

Chusquea montana Phil. f. nigricans Phil. (Rom)

NOTES
on Chusquea

This genus still needs much sorting at the botanical level. Our limited insight into the above species raised a few questions on the synonymy of the following for example. C. parviflora Phil., C. parvifolia Phil., C. tenuiflora Phil., C. valdiviensis Phil. On the vernacular names front: few names can be found in languages other than Spanish. One thing is for sure "quila" alone cannot be relied upon except perhaps for the species which takes its epithet from this very word. Colihue / Coligüe is also a common name. These suggest that perhaps the differences between species are less than obvious. That would explain also why some experts disagree on the synonymy.
