NOTES

I have never felt as uncomfortable with plant names as with this little known genus. P. pinnata is the only species spoken of outside South-east Asia, and even this taxon is lacking names in most languages. On the other hand the Pacific islanders provide us with so many names in so many languages and dialects (most of them not included in the MMPND) that we find it too difficult to sort. On the taxonomic side I have attempted to pair the various forms with other synonyms. These forms may or may not be valid in 2010, if not they would be synonyms of P. pinnata anyhow.  The common names matched to those forms or their synonym(s) are equally unreliable because for example the romanised Tamil முரலி  Murali, செம்பொஒவம Chempoovam (draft scripted names only) and Sinhala Mora are shared with Dimocarpus longan Lour. Given that we are dealing with closely related genera it is important to be more accurate.
So I leave this un-finished set of records open to all suggestions and comments.
