In some countries the difference between the sweet orange and the bitter orange are either blurred (Arabic) or not apparent at all (Thai) when one looks at their respective names.

Possibly due to the early lumping together of the Indian common names as well as the botanical names under Citrus karna Raf. It has been a hard task to deconstruct the grouping under separate cultivar names. Whether this should be done or not relates to bio-diversity considerations, keeping in mind that for the person on the land, diversity is viewed at the cultivar level, whilst the propensity of academics and bureaucrats is to limit themselves to the specific level.

Because this species is commonly confused with C. limettioides it is likely that many names from India should not apply to it. Logic indicates that they should rather be applied to the Indian sweet lime rather that this mediterranean sweet lime. Further more the name "Mosambi" is probably better applie to a known cultivar of Citrus sinensis by that name.
